Should a wardrobe be built above the tatami?

Whether to build a wardrobe above the tatami depends mainly on ceiling height and usage habits. If the room has sufficient ceiling height and there is a large storage need, integrating the tatami with top cabinets offers high space utilization; but if the ceiling height is rather low, or items under the tatami need to be accessed frequently, it is not advisable to build too high, as it tends to feel oppressive. During measurement, we confirm wall flatness, the kickboard, and internal and external corners, then decide the finishing method — this greatly affects how well the tatami sits against the wall. We suggest defining the functional zones first before drawing the plan, and not sacrificing activity space just to add more cabinets.
