On the environmental side, the key is not whether it is called particle board or plywood, but the amount of adhesive and the environmental grade. Particle board uses a relatively controllable amount of adhesive, and ENF-grade particle board from major manufacturers is very mature; plywood is made by gluing and hot-pressing veneers, with more layers and more adhesive layers, but well-made plywood can also achieve ENF.
